October 2012

Hi, it’s been great to see so many of you at our recent gigs.

We are delighted to welcome to the band  Katie Glendinning on drums, Gentry Winters on fiddle and rubboard,  and Michel Brouet (bass/vocals); ..  joining Eric Richard (guitar/vocals) Raoul Hawkins (sax/rubboard) and Geoff Tofler (accordion/vocals)

Our new SqueezeBox line-up got off to an up-beat start at the Illawarra Folk Festival in January.  Among the 3 great gigs, one highlight was playing and instructing in zydeco dance.  If you haven’t seen the way Louisiana locals get down, here are some of my favourite videos showing dancers of  all ages.  Watch the zydeco instruction video, and put it into practice at our next gig!

What else?

After great help over the years setting up and maintaining our website from Andy Robillard, even from Canada (thanks Andy), Michel  has kindly taken over the reins of updating the website.

Thanks, also to Michel and Judith, for uploading some recent SqueezeBox videos at the Illawarra Festival, taken by Judith.

Katie has put us up on Facebook where you can hear about our latest gigs.

Talking about gigs, we are delighted to now have a monthly gig at the Blue Plate Bar and Grill… see our gig listing for more details – October 21 and November 18 are our next ones.  We will have a special guest for the November gig – Richard Klein, fiddle extraordinaire from New Zealand.

Our recent “Map to your Heart” CD is available on the internet, and  Jose Suescun, our fantastic promoter in New Orleans, has released a “Best of SqueezeBox Boogaloo” album, which you can purchase on-line here  (as well as your favourite gumbo mix and voodoo dolls).  http://mardigrasmambo.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=21   Say hi to Jose.

..  All the best, Geoff
